Change Mac OSX-Lion Root Password

  1. Shutdown the machine
  2. Boot up the machine while holding in the Cmd-S key combination. This boots up into single-user mode
  3. Once booted into text-mode, type in the following:
    • /sbin/mount -uw /
    • launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
    • dscl . -passwd /Users/root [enter new password here]
    • reboot
